Week 12 in a FM Girl's Diary...

Feeling festive, tucked up with Vogue and an advent Calendar my Mum gave me 18 days late, I browse the beautiful adverts I get t an article on 20 Fashion New Years Rfesolutions.

It reminded me back to the 1st of January, when slightly worse for wear with a terrible hangover I came up with my own.

1. Take no nonsense from people.

2. Try even harder at everything I do.

3. Forget about what everyone else thinks.

The third one I feel has mostly affected my wardrobe. Gone are the days when I would buy a beautiful statment pi

ece then shove it to the back of the wardrobe for "the right occasion". Because lets face it, there never is a right occasion.

I took some advice from my friend Megan, who always looks great - it was simple but then when you think about it it's totally true. She is alwasy inundated with phonecalls from me before a nightout of "should i wear this?", "is it too dressy?" and her answer - "Just wear it". And it's true, who cares what anyone else is saying.

Just to finish here is a fantastic piece I found while shopping which gives Christmas Jumpers a whole other definition;
Merry Christmas!

Week 10 in a FM Girl's Diary

After last weeks post, I was desperate to see what shops are doing to beat this boring "Topshop's selling a red jumper, so we at River Island will sell a red jumper" attitude all the shops have at the moment.
It wasn't hard to find that many designers and brands are offering a customisation services. This is a cardigan designed on the Ralph Lauren Website. If you can make out the small writing on the bottom left hand corner, it does indeed say Erin.

Other brands to do this are NikeID, where they have a huge range of trainers, hoodies, bags, etc. to customize, and although not essentially my cuppa tea, desperate times, desperate measures.

Even Topshop London are providing a customisation service where items can be embellished, torn, sewn up to create an individual garment.

So Fashion retailers are realising the need for individuality? Well they should make their clothing more individual in the first instance then. Rant over... for now!

Week 9 in a FM Girl's Diary...

Jacobs and Juicy and CK and Mulberry, Those are a few of my favourite things.

A trip to Edinburgh reminded me of the things I love the most but unfortunately (or fortunately for my student loan) I don’t often get to see in Aberdeen.

The new Mulberry Charlie bags with limited edition Christmas leather – metallic cracked blue were one of the cutest and most affordable too. "Quote from Father - "I am not paying £150 for something that resembles a pencil case!" hmph)

But as I shopped amongst the high street and the designer shops I found a re occurrence in almost every store – you could not find one ting individual to one store. Every time I tried something on I was scared to purchase it in case the one in Topshop was slightly nicer or cheaper or fitted better.

To purchase something individual is getting even harder and before while people may have looked at purchasing something a little more expensive with a designer tag in order to have something no one else had. But why pay for Gucci and Mui Mui boots when Steve Madden does exactly the same for a tenth of the price! Although thanks to my flatmate I have been lucky enough to parade around (Indoor only) in her real Gucci studded boots.

Santa baaby....?

Week 8 in a FM Girl's Diary...

This week brought about a classic style predicament.

How to do Rugby to Night.... The winter equivalent of Beach to Bar. Being from Rugby town I should be good at this by now, but as Saturday crept up I still had little to wear!

Stephen Bayley once said:

"It is the fragrant lack of practicality that makes high-heeled shoes so fascinating. There is something arousing about this declaration that she is prepared to sacrifice function for form."

However, Bayley, I ain't really feeling your theory for this event.

So I questioned how to be practical and warm in rain but transform it quickly enough in a walk from the stadium to a bar. After numerous suggestion's of Ralph Lauren polo's - cute but not dressy, and being told by a Jack Wills hater (apparently there are some?! ha) not to wear the gilet, Festival wear came into my head

The favourite look of layering and stacking up accessories that Kate Moss and Lily Allen share at such events, is always a nice look as well as warm.

I felt a little old for my age worrying about practicality and I'm the first person to tell my mum in the owrds of Lo (Laguna Beach...old school) life's a fashion show... but shockingly from a class survey during a group exercise, it came out that nearly all of the FM students go for comfort in day wear, while using a key item to create a statement piece. After that I didn't feel quite so bad.

The cute little fur shrug I felt would definitely be a staple piece for my wardrobe - should really be getting an airing. But then which jacket... I was definitely putting too much thought into this.

In the end, all this thought for an outfit that got soaked, for a girl who had one of the best kind of nights - having a vino with the besties watching x factor! Brill.

Week 7 in a FM Girl's Diary...

Something happened this week, and I'm not sure how to feel about it.

Christmas is coming, santa's list is being made, I came across Chanel.com (a girl can dream).
A blast of music escaped my laptop - I thought to myself flaming pop-ups...grr. But I took a double take, here, on Chanel.com was 22 Lily Allen's latest single.

Don't get me wrong, I love Lily Allen, and I love her style - a personal favourite of mine was the outfit for TITP09:

But what would Coco say? It all seems a bit.... dare I say... High Street. Good on Karl for putting such a gorgeous healthy looking girl out there, but when she is stil modelling for Gio Goi, the only word I can think for it is random.
Then again maybe I'm just jealous she gets the freebies.

Week 6 in a FM Girl's diary...

No internet/coursework/too much work/too much shopping has pretty much allowed for no time and therefore no blog so this ones a cheeky two weeker!

The last couple of weeks have been mad and I'm sure the fashion gurlies will agree with me when I say that fashion communication has been more like having a job for a fashion magazine, but has given us more of an education than sitting in a lecture theatre could ever have done.

It taught me people change plans, their minds and you can't always rely on the weather. Welcome to the real world!
An outdoor photoshoot with an first date vintage theme, swiftly changed to a cosy, attic Jack Wills style gathering shoot. Photos to follow.....

Week 4 in a FM's Girls diary...

When I watch the famous Hill's episode - Jason's birthday (you all know it), and you see Lauren working away backstage at a shoot, and she's desperate to leave, we all thought to ourselves a true fashionista would not be desperate to leave. However what they do know show on screen is the length of time she was probably waiting around for before they gave her work.

I found this out the hard way.

Turning up and speaking to the organisers, I was feeling very Conrad chic, and then they told us to wait. And wait. And wait. Until 6 hours later they eventually gave us something to do.

Working backstage at the show was a really great experience. I was given a group of model, a rail with 3 different designers’ garments and the opportunity to style the outfits as I liked. From reconstructed Rosehip and Tutu vintage wear, to Moschino dresses, we dressed the models.

Leaving the hotel 10 hours after arriving, I was exhausted but it gave me a real insight into what is needed behind the scenes, helpful for my own shoot in week 5...

Week 3 in a FM Girl's diary...

What a productive week!

Having got over the shock of the sheer amount of work we have to do in the next three months, I thought it was time to put pen to paper...well technically phone to ear, and get organised.
And if I don't say so myself, did pretty well!

I called a small vintage shop on Rosemount I had never heard of on the off chance they would allow us to borrow some clothes for the photo shoot we have to organise for coursework. On the other end of the phone was an extremely helpful lady who was interested in helping us out. I organised a meeting and on Thursday Megan and myself arrived at Rose Hip & Tutu - a bright, airy shop, well more of a gallery for clothes, and were greeted by one of the owners, Sally. Her shop is fantastic and their concept is so simple and effective you think surely everyone would be doing it - taking something old and making it something new? Genius isn't it.

There will soon be an article up on how the two ladies set up their business and their background, as well as a spread on their clothing shortly, but I would really urge you to pop in and have a look at their stuff, or better still, take something of yours along and get it restructured, restyled, appliqued, whatever you fancy!

As well as this I've been given the opportunity to work backstage at the Toni & Guy fashion show. More next week on how I get on being Lauren Conrad for a day :p
In doing so I've had to turn down Pr-ing for Enter Shikari on the same night...boo... but I literally can't wait, bring on Sunday :D

First Ever Post...

So it's getting kinda chilly, and everywhere you look is Christmas themed (I know, it's not even Halloween!), So first discussion... What will you be wearing this winter? Post a pic, link to polyvore or just leave me a comment telling me what your wearing, and I'll be back shortly to tell you mine.

I have a suspicious feeling it will revolve round my little bitty expensive new Gilet...
